The Daily Heartbreak: Beyond 1%

It is heartbreaking to watch as plastic floats by my home on the sea. This is a daily occurrence, often accompanied by the slick rainbows of petrol residue left by motorized vehicles.

I recently saw one of the whale-watching vessels advertising "1% for the environment." Frankly, that's exactly what it feels like—a tiny, token effort. With all the boats and seaplanes making virtually zero effort to use our waters without pollution, it is tough to remain optimistic.

I would genuinely love to be a more positive person, but it is extremely difficult to do so when profit is consistently preferred over conservation.

My Commitment to the Water

For my part, my sailboat is electric, and I only use the motor to navigate ports. Otherwise, I am an engineless sailor. Many of the ports here do not allow sails to be used inside their boundary, making auxiliary propulsion necessary.
